The (Catch)Light In Her Eyes

In her eyes

Ah, such a serious look.  And she's looking so much older than her 4 year old self.  *sigh*

Catchlights are not my spe-shee-al-i-ty, and some folks know how to make 'em better in Photoshop, but being the photoshop flunkie that I am, unless the stars and planets align, or in my case, the sun and subject reflecting the sun, I generally depend on luck.  Apprently, everything aligned for this shot.

They certainly did align. Cadence is such a beautiful little girl. She's gonna be a knock out when she gets older. Got your lock and key?? ;-)

She is so gorgeous!

I (jokingly? maybe?) called myself a catchlights whore the other day. Everything else could be wrong with a photo but if I get a perfect window light reflection in the eyes, I'm thrilled.

I find it really hard to get good catch lights with dark brown asian eyes. Her's are not too blown out - the perfect balance!

We just call them eye-lights in (movie-type) film. They are much better done in camera than in "post". Beautiful.

Simply gorgeous. Both photo and Cadence.

Thanks, y'all. I kinda don't understand the physics of it, but when I do see the reflections are just right in her eyes, I grab my camera.

So beautiful!!! I must say I LOVE catchlights!! They are my specialty and I would never make them in photoshop (that may be because I have no idea how to). But to "catch" them naturally is not as hard as one might think. And it's not a magic trick, lol. If you are indoors it's a simple as having your subject facing a lovely large window, boom gorgeous window reflection catchlights. When you are outside the best way to get them is to have your subject in open shade facing towards the lightsource. If you can't find open shade then a reflector is your best friend!!
