Pixie

This is Pixie, one of Uncle Charles and Aunt Ali's cats. This is the cat Cadence followed around like a puppy the whole time we stayed with them in Seattle. Today, Charles and Ali will be coming to Chicago to stay w/ us for a few days. I'm wondering if Cadence is going to look for Pixie is in their suitcase. She sure loves that cat...
Synonmous With Seattle

This was my eighth trip to Seattle, believe it or not, and one of my favorite things to do when we fly into the city is to spot the Space Needle from the plane. We took Cadence up in the Needle this time around, and while I think it was a waste of $32 for two 40 second elevator rides (she didn't get as excited as we'd hoped about the view from on high), I still enjoy getting photos of the Needle.
Fall in Seattle

While summer seems to be lingering a bit in Chicago, Seattle was definitely showing signs of having entered autumn. We saw some pretty fall foliage colors creeping into the deciduous sections of the Olympic peninsula forests, and Seattle's trees were also losing their summer greens. This is probably my favorite season of the year, and although I do not look forward to the prolonged winters in Chicago, I will savor the cool, crisp autumn days to come here in the Windy City.
Not Open

I'm usually shy about taking photos of establishments through their windows. Lucky for me, this one was closed. And I just love how the chairs and booths line up so nicely. They look mighty comfy.
Red Stools

More red stuff. Seems to be the theme these days. These were stools at a Seattle's Best Coffee at the Pike Place Market. We go back home to Chicago today. I am so behind on editing photos, but I'm sure I'll have more to share in the days to come.
My Kind of Beach

I just love all the rocky beaches in the Pacific Northwest. It's definitely my kind of beach, the one with tons of driftwood and skimming stones and seaweed. This photos was taken at a little beach on Elliott Bay right by the Seattle Art Museum.
Ampersand

This is part of a sculpture installation called Love & Loss at the Olympic Sculpture Park, which is part of SAM (Seattle Art Museum). This is obviously the '&' portion. As you can see, the skies are a brilliant blue in Seattle, in stark contrast to what we left behind in Chicago. And contrary to popular myth, it does NOT rain every day in Seattle. In fact, their summers are usually perfect, although it's been somewhat rainy this year. We may see some more rain later this weekend when we're back in Seattle, but that's okay.
Monday morning we are off to Portland. I have work-related stuff all day Tuesday and Wednesday, but we'll have time to see our good friends John and Phil. I've never spent much time in Portland, so I'm looking forward to it.
