Same Location But So Different

When Cadence and I were walking to meet her Dad and uncles at this Chinese restaurant, I saw this lonely cyclist leaning against the wall, and I immediately pulled out my camera.  I just love how he's staring out into space.  What is he doing there?  Is he waiting for someone?  Is he happy?  Is he sad?  Is he lonely?  Is he in anticipation?  These are some of the questions that run through my head when I "see" photos.

And this is a photo I took later in the evening.  It feels so different from the photo above, maybe because it's a group of happy, well-fed people.  Charles, the one on the left, is Ted's brother visitng from Seattle.  There's been a lot of homebrew drinking going on this weekend, as you can imagine!

Signs of Spring

I think Chicago's caught spring fever.  I'm seeing little signs popping up everywhere, including this lovely blue bicycle with basket.  It's really the basket that says spring to me.  I see hardcore cyclists biking 365 days a year around town, but when the pretty cruisers with the wicker baskets show up, you know that warm times are a'coming.

Never mind that Wednesday is forecast to be cold and rainy...

And speaking of signs, look for signs of hope coming to Shutter Sisters.  Stay tuned; join in!

Bikes In Living Room

This is the kind of stuff that makes me smile and pull out my camera.  And this is why I try to carry my camera around as often as possible.

(Taken in the lovely Kedzie Kastle, home to Ted's coworker Whitney and roomie Jill who hosted a homebrew dinner party last Saturday night.)

Believe

Looking at this photo, I'm reminded of the electricity so many of us collectively felt on the evening of last November 4th.  We were full of hope and ready for change, and we believed.  Now, 4 months later, with our economy in shambles, with so many more out of work, with so many more working who still can't afford the basic necessities in life, I hope that we can continue to believe and to do our part in bringing about that change we so yearned for.

I know these are hard times for so many, and I just pray that in the midst of the darkness and fear and uncertainty that we will continue to hold on to hope, continue to love the least among us, continue to be comforted by a faith in all that is good and pure and beautiful and just in this universe...
