And The Rocket's Orange Glare

The Audience

This is part of the audience watching the Winnemac Park Explosions In the Sky Mayhem on Saturday night.  That orange smog was so surreal...

Linder and Irving Park

It's pretty obvious from looking through my photos that I love night photography.  It's one of the joys of living in the city, the bountiful light that doesn't end once the sun goes down.  It's a whole other game, the gathering of artificial and often moving lights.  While during the day, the moments I snap don't usually last more than 1/60 of a second, at night I'm often capturing anywhere from an entire second to 30 seconds.  I could probably blow my mind pondering that for a bit, but  I'll stop here for now.

The photo above is of the entrance to Portage Park after I'd dropped off my friend Chris following The Mountain Goats show.  I literally stopped my car in its tracks because the lights on the trees were so beautiful.

I really love my city...

The Perfect Way to Welcome Spring

I went to see Neil Halstead at Schubas last night.  This may sound silly, but it's not easy for me to talk about the experience of seeing him play live.  You see, Neil is probably my all time favorite singer-songwriter.  He is also one of the artists whose music was the soundtrack to one of the most pivotal periods of my life back in the spring of '02. I haven't seen him live since late 2003, but 3 of his songs are on Cadence's sleepy songs CD, so I've actually heard him sing probably every night for the past 4 years or so.

And today it is the first day of spring, although it's as blustery as a January day outside.  I'm pretty sure I picked up a cold while taking photos outside of Schuba's last night, but the sky was so beautiful, I just had to take some long exposures.

Happy Spring, everyone!
