Bowne & Co. Stationers

Bowne & Co. Stationers

This is another photo from my NYC trip a couple weeks ago.  I did a little bit of wandering, trying to find the Brooklyn Bridge from the Wall Street Ferry Terminal.  What you don't see is that there is a woman sitting on the front steps of the building next to this one, and she's yelling at no one (or maybe everyone) in particular about immoral people and hell and damnation.  This man just sat there through all the yelling, looking too tired to move out of earshot of her fire and brimstone sermon.

Wow! I used to work for them years ago. Bowne was founded in 1775.

"Two years after the Boston Tea Party protests British taxes on international commerce, Robert Bowne opens Bowne & Co. at 39 Queen Street (now Pearl Street), in New York City. He sells writing papers, account books, quills and pens, binding and printing materials, cloth, powder, furs, nails, glass and dry goods, pitch pine boards and cutlery. Within a few years, actual printing is added to Bowne's business services."

Kinda neat stuff. :)

That's so cool, Alana! Thanks for the tidbit, and also for the location info. I was just walking to the Brooklyn Bridge by sight (harder than I thought it would be), and had no idea where I was. Those red doors are just beautiful.
