Late Night at Starbucks
I was walking down Belmont, headed for the northbound 22 Clark bus stop, and just as I got to the corner across the street, the bus pulled away. With the recent CTA cuts, I didn't know WHEN the next bus would be, so I decided to people watch the folks in the Starbucks on the corner from the outside.
That's when I saw him, an older gentleman in a nice suit at the window, just standing and staring blankly out into nowhere. He stood that way for a long time, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking about, whether he was just tired, or waiting for someone, or postponing the inevitable trudge homeward. I look at him now, or at the photo of what he was THEN in that moment, and I still wonder...
It can be an overwhelming experience to observe the city at night, when loneliness and weariness cannot be hidden by the brightness of day...

Beautiful picture. You really captured the moment. I'm sitting in class looking at it wondering the same things you were. So much emotion on his face.
