Katie the Artist

WormfarmD-Tour046

This is Katie Schofield, the artist-in-residence at Wormfarm and our friend whom we visited this past weekend.  She is probably one of my 3 favorite subjects to photograph over the age of 5.

Katie the Artist

She possesses a strength and serenity about her that are eminently photogenic, if that makes any sense.  At any rate, I'm glad I had the chance see her and her artwork this past weekend.

Back to Urban Reality

WormfarmD-Tour001

(Rudden, holding an egg fresh out of the hen house)

Well, after an idyllic weekend up at Wormfarm, it's back to life in the big city.  It was good to slow down for a couple days, though.  I love spending time with people who feed my spirit and nurture my soul.

Our Partners in Country Excursions

Our Partners in Country Excursions

We leave this afternoon for Wormfarm Institute for our friend Katie's art exhibit opening @ the Woolen Mill Gallery in Reedsburg, WI.  We will be joining our friends Amy & Brendan and Rudden & Jack as well as our good friend Hilary who will have the very important job of keeping Cadence company in the back seat all the way to Reedsburg.

It will be chilly up north, but I'm looking forward to getting out of the city yet again with our friends.

Lucky Jack

006Hitching a ride

If I remember correctly, Jack caught a few rides on that yellow bicycle in this manner during the course of the weekend, and not just from Jared.  I like how Oliver is following in the distance down that gravely path.

Talk about idyllic...

Almost Converted

073The sweetest dog ever

Normally, I'm a cat person.  I find felines simply irresistible and would sit for hours quite contentedly with a big ball of fur purring like a lawn mower in my lap.  While I'm pretty sure that I'm still a cat lover through and through, I did meet a dog last weekend at Wormfarm that almost made me change my mind.

That's Trouser in the photo above.  He was the big black farm dog that greeted me with a well-aimed lick on my nose as soon as I got out of our car.  I think I could grow to love this dog.  He could keep up with the kids one minute and then collapse and totally chilax the next.  His big bushy tail is thick with spiky burrs, nature's own Super Strength Velcro, but he doesn't seem to mind.  I think one could learn a lot about the good life by hanging out with a dog like Trouser.

Good Old Fashioned Fun

109Wheeeee

There's something about a tire swing dangling from a tree branch that's the epitome of pure wholesome fun.

010Jack's turn

It's sheer delight to watch kids as they hang on for dear life or giggle with glee as they whiz through the air faster and higher than their little bodies normally do under the influence of gravity.

Friends Rock

058A rusted old truck conveniently situated

These are my friends Katie and Hilary, two of the folks I hung out w/ on the farm this past weekend.  Theirs is a friendship I have long admired, so I was glad to take some photos of them together.  Katie is the one who lives and works on Wormfarm as an Artist-In-Residence.

And here are my friends Amy and Brendan and their boys Rudden and Jack whom we also got to hang out with on the farm.   Jack was crying into Amy shoulder when I took this photo, which is why you can't see his face here.

Here's a better photo of Jack.  My camera loves his eyes, that's for sure.  And he's really good about looking into the camera, which works great for me the photographer.

These were the friends we hung out with during our weekend in Wisconsin.  I wish we could've stayed longer, but at least I've got the photos as a memento.

It's My Birthday, Folks

And here is the gluten free chocolate cake that my friend Amy made for me during the weekend on the farm.  I know you won't believe me, but that cake is full of protein and fiber, thanks to the pureed garbanzo beans that replaced the flour.  It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious!

I took today as a vacation day, and Ted and I plan on doing something fun while Cadence is in school, but I'm sure I'll get through the photos from this weekend soon.  The photo above is one of the first I took when I got to the farm.  There's a lot more where that came from...

On The Farm

We've been having a grand old time on the farm.  This vintage yellow scwhinn on the gravel road says it all--relaxed, laid back, time standing still are a few words and phrases that come to mind.  More photos when we get back!
